SALT LAKE CITY — Families can join teachers in learning more about education this week at the annual Utah Education Association Convention held at South Towne Expo center in Sandy.
UEA may mean “vacation” for some, but for others, it means “education.”
This year, educational activities for students and parents will be added to workshops and seminars for teachers.
Discovery Gateway, Thanksgiving Point, The Leonardo, Mad Science and Salt Lake City and County libraries will all be part of an interactive learning area.
Information on keeping kids safe online, helping struggling learners and finding free learning resources will be discussed in stage presentations and workshops for parents and educators.
The Jazz Bear is hosting a book giveaway where participants who make a basketball shot can win a free book.
More than 150 vendors will showcase education-related products and services at the convention. A free movie screening will be followed by a panel discussion on teacher-led education reform.
Admission to the convention is free for UEA members and their families. General admission is $5. Free tickets are available through public school teachers. More information can be found at utea.org.
