NORTH SALT LAKE — It’s good practice in case you ever have to run from zombies.
North Salt Lake is holding a “Run for Your Lives” Halloween 3K on Oct. 19 starting at 9 a.m. at Tunnel Springs Park. Officials will wear costumes, and encourage participants to dress up as well.
“We want things to be fun,” said North Salt Lake City Council member Matt Jensen. “It should be a great event for the whole family.”
Jensen’s son Nathan, who is currently working on getting his Eagle Scout Award, organized the race. It will follow the Bountiful Shoreline Trail.
“People won’t be out running the roads or in traffic,” said Matt Jensen.
Though 1K and 5K races are more common, organizers felt that setting the distance at 3K would be less intimidating.
“I think people who don’t run look at a 5K as kind of a scary distance,” said Matt Jensen. “But a 3K is only 60 percent of that.”
It also means that younger runners can join in. Though a 1K will also be available for kids, they’re also welcome to try the longer race.
“It’s a relatively easy course,” said Jensen. “Even kids should be able to handle that kind of distance.”
Registration for the 3K can be done online at beta.active.com/north-salt-lake-ut/running/run-for-your-lives-halloween-3k-2013 or at the park the day of the event. Registration is $10 per person or $30 per family.
Tunnel Springs Park is located at the corner of Eaglewood Drive and Parkway Drive.
