NORTH SALT LAKE - Car aficionados got a close-up look at Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis and Porsches at this year’s North Salt Lake Festival of Speed.

Even an Alfa Romero and a DeLorean were on display at this year’s show, along with Lotuses, Teslas and Aston Martins.

“I love cars and I love people,” said Bruce Oblad, who organizes the annual event.

The gentle slope south of the Eaglewood Golf Course was filled with almost 200 vehicles, from motorcycles to classic cars.

During the two hours of Tuesday evening’s show, it was also filled with hundreds of people who came to peer inside the windows or ask questions of the owners.

What started some years ago as a neighborhood event and included a dozen or so cars has grown each year. Oblad has reached out to car owners and clubs through social media and posted signs.

This is the third year Oblad has worked with North Salt Lake City, combining the July 2 event with the city’s Fourth of July celebration on July 3, which also takes place on the Eaglewood course.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 911 Porsches and Lamborghinis, according to the event website, eaglewoodfestivalofspeed.com.

Fifteen Porsches were on display, as were four Lamborghinis, eight Lotuses and 17 Corvettes. This year is the 60th anniversary of Corvette.

Appearances by a helicopter and a hot-air balloon gave the festival another dimension this year.

Next year’s event will again be held on July 2, said Oblad.
