BOUNTIFUL — Four youth soccer teams from Layton and Bountiful will advance to the 2013 Region IV Championships in Frisco, Tex.

The Region IV championships start Monday, June 17 and run through the end of the week.

The three qualifying teams that advanced to Frisco from Layton are the La Roca Premier U-13, U-14 and U-16 girls’ teams. Bountiful’s Forza FC also advanced to Frisco with its 95 Premier team, or U-18 girls.

All four teams will represent roughly 250 other top U.S. Youth Soccer boys’ and girls’ teams from the 14 U.S. Youth soccer state associations.

Other state associations are Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.

The Region IV Championships feature top teams in the Under-12 through Under-19 age groups. The tournament will begin with a round-robin format the first two days, then move to a single elimination quarterfinals match after a day off.

Semi-finals will be held Saturday, June 22 and a champion will be crowned the following day.

Regional winners will then advance to the next stage of the championships, the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships, in July. The championship is held from July 22-28 at Overland Park Soccer Complex in Kansas.

One of the 14 national crowns awarded is the James P. McGuire Cup, the oldest trophy in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships.

Should any local teams advance, they will go up against other teams in other regions that span across the U.S.
