BOUNTIFUL – After winning at competitions in Utah and Nevada, Elizabeth McConkie will compete in the National Hoop Shoot Finals in Massachusetts in April.

What is remarkable about Elizabeth, besides the fact that she shot 21 of 25 free throws to win the Las Vegas competition, is that she is in third grade and competes in the division with other eight- and nine-year olds.

“She puts a lot of work in,” said her aunt, Julie McConkie. “She’s a huge Jimmer fan so she’s won his jersey every time she’s won. She practices a couple of hours every day at church or the rec center.”

Besides basketball, Elizabeth plays recreational soccer and learned to ski this winter.

The8-year old is the youngest of four children of Paul and Lynne McConkie. Her older sisters also played soccer and basketball.

The national competition is held in Springfield, Massachusetts, the home of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, on April 12.
