BOUNTIFUL – Unlike in horror movies, you’re going to want to go down into the dark, scary basement.
Legacy House of Bountiful is offering a free spook alley to the community Oct. 29 starting at 4:30 p.m. Guests take an elevator down to the basement, filled with an assortment of volunteers ready to scare people’s socks off.
“We even had teenagers running up,” said Deanna Seager. marketing director for Legacy House. “They were just terrified.”
The spook alley started five years ago, when a resident requested that the house set one up in celebration of the season. Though it started in the library, the alley soon outgrew the space and had to move downstairs.
“As the years have gone on, it’s just gotten bigger and bigger,” she said. “We’ve added more rooms and expanded into the hallway.”
Along with the party upstairs, it’s one of the most well-attended events Legacy House holds each year.
“It gives grandchildren the chance to come and just enjoy the holiday with their grandparents,” she said.
According to Seager, those grandparents who live at Legacy House enjoy a few scares as well.
“It gets their blood pumping,” she said.
The alley is staffed with volunteers who work at Legacy House. Though this year’s theme is Monster Mash, the specific scares are left up to each individual performer.
“Some stand around, and others follow people,” said Seager. “It really just depends on what the volunteers want to do. They have fun with it.”
The volunteers have a policy not to target children, but it’s still up to a parent’s discretion whether their kids are ready.
“People do try to take the little ones down,” said Seager. “Some kids are fine with the spook alley, and others are just not having it. It really just depends.”
