he Davis Darts and Viewmont Vikings football teams will be searching for their first win of the season as they take the field against each other Friday night at Viewmont High School.
Davis, coming off a disappointing seven-point loss to Brighton, heads to Viewmont High School, riding a two-game winning streak against the Vikings and have won five of the seven games dating back to 2005.
This year, however, has brought about a lot of change for Davis, which continues to play opponents very close during the preseason and regular season.
The Darts hired a new defensive coordinator in its coaching staff this season and had to name a new starting quarterback, new back field, new receiving corps and most of a new offensive line.
While the team is getting acclimated on offense, the defense has some familiar names in Jackson Peacock, Davis Seaman, Kyle Godderidge and Chance Parker. Each of them contributed to the close game against Brighton, with Peacock and teammate Ammon Harris getting 13 and 14 tackles respectively.
Despite their seven-point loss, the Darts have plenty to look forward to defensively: they nearly shut down the Brighton offense for the entire game sans the third quarter last week.
The biggest question the Vikings will have entering Friday night will be whether the defense can bounce back from giving up 41 points in a loss. Even though the Vikings returned five starters from last season, they gave up five rushing touchdowns in one game.
And rush defense was something the Vikings were very good at last season. In 2011, the Vikings didn’t allow five rushing touchdowns until the fourth week of the season. Once they entered Region 2 play, they only once allowed more than one rushing touchdown in a single game, giving up two in the final game of the regular season against
