One of my favorite places is the Caribbean and a great way to experience it is on a fabulous cruise. I love the fact that you explore an island during the day, have an incredible dinner and evening; then you wake up the next morning in a completely different country. I love the diversity in the Caribbean which is influenced by the countries that settled each island. You will have the Dutch influence in Curacao and Aruba, the French in Martinique, the British in Barbados and the Bahamas, and the Danish in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
A few things remain the same no matter which islands you go to. The water is the most incredible shades of blue from the dark blue of the deep water to the turquoise shades near shore. Each island also has soft white sand beaches, warm sunshine and the gentle rustling of the palm fronds in the refreshing breeze. Don’t forget your sunscreen you will definitely need it.
There are reefs that are teeming with brightly colored tropical fish and friendly people wanting you to buy their hand made goods. There are islands with sharp, jungle covered peaks like St. Lucia and there are islands that are flat with endless beaches. I have been to the Caribbean about 15 times and I am always looking forward to my next trip.
On the cruise ship you will be pampered for a week and sailing away watching the islands disappear as the sun sets is so relaxing. The food is always amazing and there are always activities going on but sometimes the best thing for me is playing shuffle-board on deck with my wife. The service you will receive onboard is fantastic, just make a hint in the dining room and your waiter will bring you that 3rd or 4th dessert. The only problem with cruising is that the cruise is over way too soon. The memories and pictures you will take home will warm you up through the next inversion and the anticipation of next year’s trip will brighten your day!
Travel Tip: The two weeks after Thanksgiving are usually the least expensive and least crowded times to visit the Caribbean.
