BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful native Jake Gibb and his partner Sean Rosenthal opened his 2012 Summer Olympics with a strong sweep over South Africa.

In the duo’s second round game, however, the team struggled against the Polish as they fell in straight sets 21-17 and 21-18 to fall to a tie for second place during pool competition.

Gibb and Rosenthal still have a chance to move onto the round of 16, however. They are scheduled to face Latvia in its remaining preliminary game on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. MST.

The duo currently sit in a tie with Poland with three points. Latvia is leading Group D play with wins over Poland and South Africa.

The Clipper will continue to update Gibb and Rosenthal’s progress as their matches continue.
