KAYSVILLE – There were many Davis County families watching this year’s Festival of Roses Parade with interest, but perhaps none more so than Dennis and Iris Rosier.

The pair have loved the January 1 parade ever since their honeymoon in 1962, when they attended the Pasadena parade in person.

  “We thought it was wonderful,” said Iris Rosier. “It was amazing how they could do all the things they did and have all the movement they do on floats covered with flowers.”

Marching bands, she added, add a lot of energy to the parade.

While the Rosiers haven’t been back to see the parade live, they watch each year’s event with interest. 

This year they were especially tempted to return because three of their grandchildren marched with the Davis High Marching Band.

Glen Thacker, a senior, plays clarinet. His sister Melinda Thacker, a junior, plays flute and piccolo and their brother Spencer Thacker, a ninth grader, plays trombone.

Due to health issues, the Rosiers were not able to attend this year’s parade.

They did watch it on television and said it was spectacular.

“(It) reminded me of why I so wanted to see it 50 years ago,” said Iris. 

“Watching the Davis High Band with our grandchildren in it was a thrill,” she wrote in an email.

Band students were set to return to Kaysville on Wednesday after performing in the parade and at other venues in southern California.
