The defending 4A girls basketball champs from Bountiful High were eliminated in the first round of this year’s state tournament, losing 85-52 to Alta last Tuesday.
The Hawks took leads of 21-10 and 37-25, but really poured in the points in the third quarter, racing to a 64-36 lead after three.
Bountiful was led by senior Mary Larson with 19 points and 16 rebounds, and junior Jaimee Stahle with 17 points, including three three-pointers. Kieran Gillins added eight points and seven rebounds for the Braves, who finished the season at 13-9.
“It was a good season, not quite what we had hoped for, but still a good season,” coach Joel Burton said. “The girls overcame quite a bit of adversity to accomplish what they did. I am proud of their efforts.”
