How it was meant to be

The recently released first proposal from the UHSAA regarding another realignment has been made public by media outlets, and has some fans wondering what all the movement is about.

All four of the 5A regions are getting either a small facelift or a major overhaul, and some regions in 4A are getting new competition.

The biggest thing a lot of people in south Davis County are happy about is the proposed move to bring Viewmont High School back to Region 1, thereby placing the Davis/Viewmont rivalry back together.

The best thing about placing the Vikings with Davis, for fans, is it allows the rivalry to be relevant in more ways than one now. With both teams in the same region, there can’t be any scheduling mishaps, non-region matchups, or any other type of conflict that could have put the rivalry on hold for an entire season.

While the two schools did meet in most sports last season, there were some difficulties among coaches to get each other scheduled for a non-region game in other sports. The rivals didn’t play a baseball game in the spring, and a volleyball match wasn’t on the docket this past Fall.

This is one of those local rivalries that changed a lot of people’s attitudes when the two teams split regions last season. While the games were still relevant historically, with the two teams facing each other every single year with a lot of implications, it seemed to have carried less meaning this past season-plus.
