BOUNTIFUL – With the state 4A football playoffs now over with a new champion crowned, the coaches of Region 6 made their final decisions recently for the All-Region 6 football team.
Bountiful and Woods Cross high schools contributed 15 total players to the team, and Bountiful’s Jakob Hunt was named the region’s Most Valuable Player.
Other Bountiful players named to the first team are Rylee Gautavai, Ryan Curtis, Tanner Redding, Sam Merrill, Mosese Manu, R.J. Larsen and Junior Hamilton.
Woods Cross had seven players named to the first team, including Sean Barton, Skyler Farnes, Filipo Mokofisi, Alton Brown, Jake Kocherhans, Junior Vailolo and Deion Saamalu.
Hunt, a first-team All Region 6 member in 2011, led the Braves with 1,541 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns this season. With 248 carries, the senior averaged 6.2 yards per carry and had 14 receptions for 102 yards as a receiver out of the back field.
The senior led all of Region 6 in rushing yards and touchdowns this season. He was also seventh in the state in rushing yards and fourth in rushing touchdowns.
For his high school career, Hunt rushed for 2,881 yards and 37 touchdowns.
Gautavai, a co-MVP from Region 6 last season, was again listed as a first team player. This year, he led the defense with 117 tackles and 4.5 sacks. With those numbers, he led the team and tied for the team lead, respectively.
