WOODS CROSS — Hunting enthusiasts, get your bows and arrows, rifles and muzzle loaders ready for August.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has released the annual hunting calendar for the new year, and hunts start as early as mid-August.

Beginning Saturday, Aug. 17, expect gun racks to be empty and truck beds full. Those racks should be refilled by the end of January 2014.

The first nine hunting seasons for 2013 will begin on the opening day, for general archery deer, spike elk, bull elk and pronghorn deer. The nine hunts are classified under general, limited entry or premium limited entry hunts and last as little as three weeks.

The longest archery hunt, the premium limited entry bull elk archery hunt, will last from opening day until Jan. 31, 2014.

Only three hunts will be available through the end of January 2014: the premium entry bull elk archery, limited entry bull elk “any legal weapon,” and the once-in-a-lifetime bison hunts.

For more information or for a complete calendar of the upcoming hunting seasons, visit wildlife.utah.gov/hunting/biggame/13_bg_hunt_dates.php.
