In Education: Students qualify for National Merit scholarships

BOUNTIFUL — Semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program were named this week. Students from local high schools were among the 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools who entered by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, according to a press release.

     Their high scores put them in the top 16,000 and qualify them to apply for millions of dollars in scholarships. Students named are Joshua Calder, Dustin Chen, Clayton Hadlock and Andrea Porras of Boutiful High; Jonathan Kim of Viewmont; Marcus Von Cannon of Clearfield; EmilyAnne Baker, Joshua Martineau, Bradley Richmond, Joshua Robinson, Adam Schank, Dallin Shepherd and Braden Watkins of Davis High; and Daniel Avery of Woods Cross.
