NORTH SALT LAKE – The contribution of veterans will be celebrated at a 5k run sponsored by Wasatch Peak Elementary School.

The charter school is holding a 5k run/walk on Saturday, Nov. 16. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the run starts at 9 a.m. and is open to participants for $5 a person or $20 a family. Veterans are invited to run for free.

“Everyone that participates can run to honor a veteran that is living or has passed away,” said Kara Hughes, a fifth-grade student, in an emailed press release. “You can run for a veteran or the veteran can walk, run or wheel for themself,” she wrote. Volunteers will be on hand to push veterans in a wheelchair if they’re unable to walk, she said.

The event is for families of all ages and includes a bounce house, door prizes and music. It begins at the school, 414 N. Cutler Drive in North Salt Lake.
