SALT LAKE CITY — Dr. Weston Judd, a medicinal chemist from Farmington has been named the  laboratory services director for the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food.

Judd comes to the department after working to develop anti-cancer medicines at Myriad Pharmaceuticals in Salt Lake City. 

He also developed mineral nutritional supplements for Albion Labs in Clearfield, according to a department press release.

Judd grew up on a family cattle and sheep ranch in Wanship in Summit County, attended North Summit High School in Coalville before graduating from Evanston High School.К

As a Utah State University student, he earned a bachelor’s degree and later received his Ph.D in chemistry from the University of Kansas, the press release said.

“I am excited to make this career change to the State of Utah,” said  Judd.К“Having grown up on the farm, I have a great interest in agriculture and would like to put my chemistry background to use for the good of the industry,” he added.КК

The chemistry lab serves the divisions within the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food.КIts laboratories provide chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses of a wide variety of products, with the goal of protecting the state’s consumers, farmers, and industry.
