BOUNTIFUL – Miranda Tesch and Cierra Martin scored a goal apiece for the Bountiful Lady Braves girls’ soccer team against rival Woods Cross Tuesday night at Woods Cross High School.

The two goals proved to be more than enough, as the Lady Braves claimed a 2-0 win to sweep the season series.

After a scoreless first half, Tesch scored the Braves’ initial goal in the game, knocking the ball to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 54th minute of play. The second goal came in the 69th minute when Martin was able to slide the ball into the net for the two-goal lead.

Woods Cross did not go down without a fight; however, as they sprayed shots in Charity Cole’s direction all game long. Each of their attempts came up empty, despite having a few good looks at the net in both halves.

By preserving the shutout for the Braves, Cole picked up her seventh shutout of the season and first against the Wildcats.

The Braves won the Region 6 title outright last week, and finished with a 12-2 record in the region. Woods Cross’ loss, combined with Highland’s win over Judge Memorial Tuesday night, placed both teams in a tie for the final 4A playoff spot in the region.

The 4A playoffs begin on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
