KAYSVILLE – Natalie Mecham was one of three players to score in double figures for the Davis Darts girls’ basketball team on Tuesday night.
The end result: the end of a two-game winning streak for Woods Cross. The Darts beat the Wildcats 67-49.
The Lady Darts, who doubled up on Clearfield last Thursday to claim their second win of the season, followed up on their strong performance by scoring 42 points in the first half to take a 15 point halftime lead.
Mecham, Jessica Richardson and Morgan Hartvigsen helped the Darts reach the double-digit lead. Woods Cross’ Aubree Riddle, Camille Horrocks and Hannah Petersen kept the game within reach for the Wildcats.
However, Woods Cross was never able to overcome the huge lead built by Davis. Both teams scored 14 points in the third quarter, and Davis outscored Woods Cross 11-8 to seal the team’s second straight victory and fourth overall this preseason.
Mecham finished with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds, and Richardson scored 18 points for Davis in the win. Hartvigsen added another 14 points with two 3-pointers for the Lady Darts.
Woods Cross, who had its small winning streak end at two games, was led by Riddle’s 17 points including three 3-pointers. Horrocks and Petersen finished with eight points in the loss.
The Wildcats’ next game will be played on Thursday, Jan. 3 at Box Elder High School. Their next home game won’t be played until Friday, Jan. 11, when they will open Region 6 play against East High School.
The Darts played another home game on Wednesday night, but the score was not available at press time. For a recap of the team’s Wednesday night game, visit the Davis Clipper’s website at davisclipper.com.
