BOUNTIFUL — Karrie Pead of the Viewmont High School girls’ soccer team is already off to a hot start.

The sophomore ended up scoring two goals, including the game-winner in the 92nd minute, against the Bountiful Lady Braves. She gave Viewmont its first win of the season in a 2-1 double-overtime victory.

“That was a great game,” said Viewmont coach Emalee Tate. “It was nice to get a feel for our players in their first game. They did a great job getting that goal in the end and did a fantastic job throughout.”

Tate, who used to coach at Clearfield High School before coming over to Viewmont this season, said the team played “a great game” throughout while remaining focused on the task of beating Bountiful for the opener.

Lou Plank, Bountiful’s coach, had a different perspective after the tough loss.

“Hands down we got outplayed in the first half,” he said. “And it continued to haunt us throughout the match, but at times we did a good job.”

Pead’s first goal, which came in the 10th minute, started with a corner kick that was taken by Courtney Wallis. The ball was headed by Ella Johnson, and then kicked into the back of the net for the 1-0 Viewmont lead.

“We dropped off in our marking and it bit us,” said Plank of Viewmont’s first goal. “We’re going to need to do a better job getting our markings. We’ll be practicing on those.”

Even though Pead was credited with the goal, she wanted to give credit to Johnson instead.

“She headed the ball across the (goal) line,” said Pead. “I just made sure that it stayed behind the line.”
