BOUNTIFUL – After taking down highly-ranked Bingham last Wednesday, the Viewmont Lady Vikings girls’ basketball team extended its winning streak to five games by taking down Bountiful 55-39 last Friday.
The Darts, who were riding a three-game win streak entering Friday’s game, lost to the Lakers, 55-47, at Bonneville High School.
Vikings down Braves 55-39, win fifth straight
After beating Brighton 83-78 last Wednesday in triple overtime, the Lady Vikings showed no signs of tiring when they took on the Braves last Friday.
Thanks to a strong second half scoring effort, Viewmont was able to beat Bountiful 55-39.
Caitlyn Larsen scored a game-high 17 points with four rebounds and five steals in the win, and Katie Toole added another 16 points.
Bountiful’s Lovely Tukuafu scored a team-high 15 points in the loss, the Lady Braves’ third straight defeat after winning its initial two games.
The Lady Vikings have held three of its first five opponents to less than 40 points in a game.
Lady Darts drop tough game to Bonneville on the road
Sarah Beecher and McKenzie Day each scored 16 points for the Davis Lady Darts last Friday against the Bonneville Lakers.
But the duo’s efforts weren’t enough to overtake a low-scoring third quarter, as the team scored five points and weren’t able to recover in the 55-47 loss.
The Lady Darts were down by three points going into the half, but allowed Bonneville to score 14 points in the third quarter.
The scoring streak by Bonneville gave the Lakers a 12 point lead entering the final quarter, and the Lady Darts were kept at bay in the fourth quarter, despite scoring 16 points.
Kayley Neilson scored nine points in the loss for the Lady Darts.
Games this week
The Lady Vikings will travel to Phoenix, Ariz., this weekend to take part in the Nike Tournament of Champions, starting Thursday.
Davis will be at home to host the Riverton Silver Wolves Friday. The home game will be the second of a four game home stretch for the Lady Darts.
Bountiful will also be at home Friday night, and will face Bear River at 5:15 p.m.
The Woods Cross Lady Wildcats will not play another game until Friday, Jan. 3 against East High School. They hosted Roy High at home Wednesday night after press time.
