SANDY – The Viewmont Vikings girls’ soccer team made its fourth straight appearance in the 5A title game Friday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

But instead of winning back-to-back titles, Viewmont fell for the third time in four championship games. The match was won by the Brighton Bengals in a 1-0 battle.

The lone goal for the Bengals wasn’t scored until the second half, when a set piece by Sydney Myers went over the Lady Vikings wall and past an outstretched Haley Johnson for the 1-0 win.

Myers’ goal was scored in the 64th minute, and her shot came from just outside the scoring area.

Viewmont gave itself a few late chances to tie the game, but were turned away by Brighton goal keeper Tamaryn Braun.

Full coverage of the 5A State title game can be seen in the next issue of the Davis Clipper.
