BOUNTIFUL – Viewmont High School’s volleyball team entered its second Region 1 match against Northridge hoping to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to Davis last Wednesday.
But after tying the match at 1-1 following the second set, the Lady Vikings couldn’t complete their rally and fell to Northridge 3-1 Tuesday afternoon at Viewmont High School.
Amanda Varley and Emily Madsen* attempted to give the team a spark in the first set after trailing 11-5. Madsen came out of the Viewmont time out and picked up a pair of service aces. A kill by Varley rallied the Vikings to an 11-12 deficit, but the Knights took 13 of the next 17 points to close off the set and gain the initial lead.
Viewmont rallied by winning the second set 25-23 behind five kills by Varley and two aces by Madsen. The Lady Vikings led 11-5 early in the second set, but allowed Northridge to tie the set at 15 all.
A kill by Varley and a net serve by Northridge allowed the Vikings to tie the match at one each.
Viewmont’s rallying cry began to fall apart in the third set as Viewmont fell behind 13-4 early on. Despite some mistakes by Northridge, the Vikings couldn’t complete a comeback and fell 25-14.
Viewmont had an early lead in the fourth set, but a tightly contest set led to a Knights win, 25-23.
Varley finished the match with 12 kills and an ace, and Madsen finished with six kills and five service aces. Kauri Tye had seven kills, three blocks and an ace in the loss.
The Lady Vikings will face Weber at Weber High School Thursday afternoon.
