Lady Vikings win twice; Braves split pair of games to Olympus, Layton

BOUNTIFUL – The Viewmont Lady Vikings girls’ basketball team took apart both its opponents last week, beating Woods Cross 70-28 and West Jordan 46-27.

Bountiful split its pair of games, beating Olympus 46-38 Wednesday before dropping to Layton 43-32 on Friday.

Davis picked up its second win of the season after taking down former region foe Clearfield, 52-33, and Woods Cross dropped its second game of the week to Box Elder on Thursday.

 

Lady Vikings trounce Wildcats, Panthers

The Viewmont Vikings girls’ basketball team is off to a hot start to the season, moving to 3-0 overall after beating Woods Cross and West Jordan on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.

In Wednesday’s game at Woods Cross, Caitlyn Larsen scored a game-high 21 points, and Katie Toole scored 19 points with eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals for a solid overall effort.

Viewmont’s defense held Woods Cross to single-digit scoring efforts in the first three quarters, allowing 11 in the final frame.

Larsen also finished with the team-high in points against West Jordan, scoring 22 points with six rebounds and five steals in the 46-27 win. 

 

Lady Braves beat Olympus, lose to Layton

The Bountiful Lady Braves needed an extra quarter in order to beat Olympus last Wednesday, but held the Lady Titans to two points in a 46-38 overtime victory.

Kennedy Redding scored a game-high 23 points and had 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double. 

Tiana Dougher scored 15 points with nine rebounds in the win.

Against Layton, the Braves were unable to recover from a 28-18 halftime deficit, eventually losing by 11 points.

Redding and Dougher scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss. Maddi Smith led all scorers with 22 points for Layton.

 

Darts down Falcons to pick up second win

Kayley Neilson scored 21 points, and McKenzie Day added another 12 points last Thursday as the Darts took down the Clearfield Falcons 52-33.

Neilson also made four 3-pointers in the win, and helped the Lady Darts pick up their second win early in the season.

 

Wildcats fall to 0-3 after loss to Box Elder

The Lady Wildcats were held to under 30 total points for the third consecutive game to start the season.

The result was another loss, this time to the Box Elder Bees, last Thursday.

Halle Smith had a team-high 11 points, and Cylea Tauatiana scored nine points in the loss.

 

Upcoming games

The Lady Darts will hit the road Thursday night to take on the Bonneville Lakers. Viewmont and Bountiful will face each other Friday at Bountiful High School.

Tip off is 7 p.m. for both games.

Woods Cross’s next game will be on Tuesday, Dec. 17 against Olympus on the road.
