Lady Vikings, Braves win big

BOUNTIFUL – Fighting for a playoff spot with half of its region games remaining, the Viewmont Lady Vikings picked up an important 65-35 win over Syracuse last Friday.

Davis fell to Layton 61-36, falling to the No. 4 seed in the region with a handful of games remaining on the schedule.

In Region 6, Bountiful beat Cyprus 49-31 and Woods Cross lost to Highland 51-40.

Lady Vikings win second straight, beat Titans 65-35

Viewmont picked up back-to-back wins last Friday at Syracuse High School after downing the Lady Titans 65-35.

Viewmont out-scored Syracuse 38-10 in the second half.

Caitlyn Larsen had a big night for Viewmont, scoring 25 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in the win. 

Katie Toole scored 19 points and had eight rebounds and six steals in the win.

Demi Hamblin led the Lady Titans with seven points in the loss.

The win for Viewmont places in a tie for the No. 3 seed with Davis.

Lady Darts fall to Lancers, 61-36

The Layton Lancers girls’ basketball team put an end to Davis’s three-game winning streak heading into last Friday’s game.

Holding the Lady Darts to 14 points in the first half, Layton built a 25-point halftime lead and eventually won by that margin.

Kayley Neilson led the Lady Darts with 11 points in the loss. McKenzie Day and Sarah Beecher scored eight points each for the Lady Darts.

Layton’s Taylor Moore and Maddi Smith each scored 13 points in the win.

Lady Braves stay unbeaten in Region 6, beat Cyprus 49-31

The Bountiful girls’ basketball team picked the right time of the season to start a winning streak.

Trailing by one point entering the second half, the Lady Braves out scored Cyprus 18-1 in the third quarter on their way to a 49-31 win to remain unbeaten in region play.

Kennedy Redding had a double-double for the Lady Braves, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in the win. Tiana Dougher scored 19 points and had eight rebounds for Bountiful.

Lady Wildcats drop tough game to Highland, 51-40

The Woods Cross Lady Wildcats scored 20 points in the fourth quarter of last Friday’s game against the Highland Rams.

But it still wasn’t enough to overcome their 16-point deficit to Highland, which eventually won 51-40.

Haylee McKenna scored 10 points to lead the Lady Wildcats. Halle Smith and Aubree Riddle each scored eight points in the loss.

Shayla Kime scored 11 points for Highland in the win.

Games this week

Region 1 will see the Lady Darts host Fremont Friday night. Viewmont will travel to Northridge to play the Lady Knights.

In Region 6, both Bountiful and Woods Cross will travel to their respective opponents as they face Judge Memorial and Clearfield, respectively.
