BOUNTIFUL — It’s still early in the season to make playoff wagers, but the outlook sharpens with each ball thrown, strike called and plate crossed.

Bountiful, at 5-0 in Region 6 play and 10-1 overall, is dominating a region that has East, Clearfield and Woods Cross in its ranks. Both the Vikings and Darts are still early in their respective region action, having played only a pair of games entering this week.

However, the Lady Vikings’ 2-0 record has them atop Region 2, and Davis’ 1-1 record has them well within reach of a playoff spot.

In the 4A class, Bountiful has been one of most powerful teams this season, culminating into a 10-1 record. In region play, the Lady Braves have outscored their opponents 54-4 and have the best run differential in all of 4A at plus-84.

Inside the circle, Belle Stoddard continued where she left off last season by performing in dominant fashion.

Stoddard has pitched in all 11 games for the Lady Braves, recording all 10 of Bountiful’s wins. She also leads the team in doubles at the plate.

Woods Cross, at 3-2 in Region 6, is coming off a pair of wins over Weber and Highland last week, and crossed the plate 21 times against Highland last Friday.

Despite losing to Bountiful 12-0 on March 28, the Lady Wildcats have solid wins over Cyprus and Highland (twice) in region play.

Viewmont has had a strong season so far, winning 11 of its first 13 games and eight of its last nine games overall.

After claiming a 15-2 victory over Kearns last Thursday, the Vikings sit atop the Region 2 standings at 2-0, and have beaten three old region foes during preseason play.

The Vikings have shown that they can swing the bat offensively, knocking 16 home runs with 30 doubles this season.

Davis is part of an eclectic mix of teams in Region 1. Through only two games, the Lady Darts are 1-1. However, no team has more than eight wins overall, making the region one of the toughest to map out early on. Despite outscoring opponents 8-1 through two games, the one run they allowed came in a 1-0 loss to Weber last Friday.
