BOUNTIFUL – Region play kicked off for most girls’ basketball teams in Utah, and in Davis County, both Region 1 and Region 6 teams started league action as well.
Viewmont, in its first season back in Region 1, started off region play with a win over Weber, 54-22.
Davis took a tough loss to Syracuse, 51-44.
In Region 6, both Bountiful and Woods Cross won their games over Clearfield and East, respectively.
Viewmont wins first game back in Region 1, beats Weber 54-22
Played at Weber High School, the Viewmont Lady Vikings welcomed themselves back into Region 1 girls’ basketball by trouncing the Warriors 54-22.
The Lady Vikings allowed five first half points, leading to a 31-5 halftime lead. Weber barely broke the 20-point barrier, but managed to score two buckets late in the game.
Caitlyn Larsen scored 28 points for Viewmont in the blowout win. Katie Toole scored 14 points.
Davis drops region opener to Lady Titans, 51-44
Holding a slim three-point lead after the first half, the Davis Lady Darts were outscored 34-24 in the second half and were handed their first region loss of the season to Syracuse last Friday.
The loss was Davis’s fifth in its last six games overall.
Meaghan David scored a team-high 16 points with two 3-pointers for the Darts, and McKenzie Day scored nine points in the loss.
Syracuse’s Demi Hamblin scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Jayda Bovero scored seven points with seven rebounds and six assists in the win.
Lady Braves shred Falcons at home, 61-39
Using a balanced attack from start to finish, the Bountiful Lady Braves had three players score in double figures as Bountiful took down Clearfield in its Region 6 opener, 61-39.
Kennedy Redding led all scorers with 21 points, and Tiana Dougher and Amy Chidester combined for 25 points in the loss.
Tayley Stoddart scored 12 points for Clearfield, and Lucy Evans and Baylee Patterson each scored nine points in the loss.
Lady Wildcats use strong fourth quarter to beat Clearfield, 50-36
Leading by eight points entering the fourth quarter, the Woods Cross girls’ basketball team scored 20 points in the fourth quarter en route to a 50-36 win.
The Lady Wildcats defense allowed 22 points through the first three quarters, and had scoring quarters of 14 and 12 points in the first and third quarters, respectively.
Aubree Riddle led all scorers with 21 points in the win. Halle Smith scored 17 points in the win.
Games this week
Region play continues Friday night as Viewmont and Davis stay at home to play Fremont and Weber, respectively, in Region 1.
In Region 6, Bountiful and Woods Cross will be on the road to face Kearns and Judge Memorial.
Region 1 games will tip off at 5:15 p.m. Woods Cross’ game will tip off at 6 p.m., and Bountiful’s game will start at 7 p.m.
