BOUNTIFUL— Caitlyn Larsen and Taya Adams, two key members of the Viewmont Lady Vikings playoff team, have been named MVP and Defensive MVP of the All-Region 2 team.
The duo, along with several other south Davis County players, was voted by the coaches of their respective regions as members of the All-Region teams. The Vikings had four players chosen for the All-Region 2 team, and Davis had five players listed to the All-Region 1 team.
In Region 6, Woods Cross and Bountiful combined to see eight players named to the All-Region 6 team.
Kennedy Merrick led the way as the MVP of the region.
Larsen’s MVP vote from the Region 2 coaches came after the junior led the team in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game for the Lady Vikings.
Taya Adams was third on the team in scoring, but was voted as the defensive MVP thanks to her play on the other end of the floor.
Also listed to the first team in Region 2 was Katie Toole, and Taya Adams was voted to the second team. Toole was the second leading scorer behind Larsen last season, averaging 15.3 points, and was second on the team in rebounding, assists, and steals during the 2012-2013 season.
The quartet helped the Lady Vikings finish 19-3 overall. Viewmont finished 10-0 in its final season in Region 2. The Vikings will be moving to Region 1 next season.
Seniors Natalie Mecham and Jessica Richardson each made the All-Region 1 first team as two of the five players voted by the coaches in the region. Morgan Hartvigsen was voted to the second team, and Caitlyn Gibson and Sarah Beecher made the honorable mention list.
Mecham and Richardson were the team’s top two scorers for the Lady Darts last season, averaging 12 and 14.1 points per game, respectively. The duo also finished as the team’s top rebounders, averaging nine and 7.1 rebounds per game, respectively.
Hartvigsen averaged 8.6 points, and Beecher and Gibson each averaged four points per game for the Lady Darts, who finished with 16 overall wins.
Merrick’s MVP vote came after she finished last season by averaging 12.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Lady Braves. Two of her teammates, Tiana Dougher and Jenny Skedros, were voted to the first team after helping the Lady Braves reach the quarterfinals of the 4A girls’ basketball playoffs.
Dougher was second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game, and Skedros led the team in steals, averaging north of five per game for Bountiful.
Morgan Cook made the All-Region team as an honorable mention.
For Woods Cross, Eden Jacobsen and Aubree Riddle each made the second team, and Halle Smith and Camille Horrocks were honorable mentions. All four players were the Lady Wildcats’ top four scorers during the season.
