‘SALT LAKE CITY – Utah students have a chance to spend a day shadowing judges in a program instituted by the Utah State Courts.
“Judge for a Day” is held in conjunction with Law Day on May 1. The date was originally set aside by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a day of national dedication to the principle of government under law, according to a press release.
Now in its eighth year, the program gives students a behind-the-scenes look at court operations. Selected students will be paired with judges in the state’s eight judicial districts. During one day in April or May, they will be able to observe court proceedings and the decisions of the judges.
Students will be selected to participate based on an essay, a civic involvement resume or a teacher nomination letter. Those submitting an essay should address the topic: “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All.”
