What IS lasagna?? Layers of rich tomato sauce, ricotta cheese, noodles and ground beef....this delicious result can also be quickly achieved with some clever shortcuts with ingredients that you likely already have in your pantry. And the addition of a couple of key seasonings give it a “made from scratch” taste!


1 pkg of cheese ravioli (32 count or more; can be round or square) prepared as directed with boiling water and drained

1 -24 oz jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce (I happen to prefer Newman’s Marinara)

1/2 lb cooked, crumbled ground beef (substitute veggie crumbles or omit totally for a vegetarian meal)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 tbl Italian Sausage Seasoning

1 tbl Italian Herb Seasoning


Stir the Italian Sausage Seasoning into the cooked ground beef and the Italian Herb Seasoning in the spaghetti sauce. With the ravioli and hamburger cooked, assemble the lasagna by layering the ingredients in an approximate 9x9 baking dish. First place a thin layer of spaghetti sauce on bottom, followed by a single layer of cheese ravioli. Top with a layer of the seasoned meat, and then repeat all again two more times – ending with a layer of spaghetti sauce. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella on top and place in a 375 degree oven for 40 minutes.
