Dear Editor,

A recent letter to the editor in your paper called into question “the quality of policing and public relations, integrity, and law enforcement ethics” of the Woods Cross Police Department in general and Chief Greg Butler in specific.

While I will not debate specific allegations in this public forum, I will state, as one who attended the meeting with Chief Butler, that rather than take “no action”, Chief Butler followed through with the request to get more information on the situation and he personally responded to the complainant.

Certain allegations were referred to the Davis County Attorney’s Office, which found no valid reason to investigate.

The writer further impugned that Chief Butler supports violating private property rights by interfering in an eviction while the opposite is the case, as the eviction was served on property to which the writer no longer had legal authority.

As the elected officials of Woods Cross City, we would like to publicly aver our support of not only Chief Greg Butler, his integrity, his ethics, his public relations, and his overall demeanor as our Chief of Police but also the entire Woods Cross Police Department. We recognize the service they render our and surrounding communities, we value the professionalism with which they do their job, and we trust them with protecting and ensuring our rights and safety.
