Dear Editor,

I would like to clear up a few misconceptions and false information in regards to Dick’s ACE HomeCenter, Karleen’s Gift Shop and the building where Dick’s Market used to be in Centerville.

First, “The Church” (LDS) is NOT buying the old Dick’s Market building. Sorry, that has never been the case.

Second, Karleens Gifts is gone. It did not close because ACE Hardware got rid of it. It closed because Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Walmart and other stores simply took their business. Internet registration killed them. Karleen actually passed away several years ago and no one took the interest in the business that she did. Sad but true.

And finally, Dick’s ACE HomeCenter was purchased by new owners in June, but the ACE name remains. Colonial ACE Hardware as it is now called has been remodeled and is a beautiful, well stocked hardware store with additional services. And the North Valley Scout Shop is still open to meet the local scouting needs. Fortunately they didn’t have to close or move.

With the closing many years ago of Anderson Lumber and then Bountiful Lumber, Bountiful is left without a single hardware store. ACE Hardware is right on the Bountiful border. Ace Hardware does not sell lumber or sheet rock but has nearly everything the average home owner might need. It is still the great sprinkler store as it has always been and has a nut and bolt section that is out of this world. ACE Hardware is alive and well. I hope everyone has a chance to check it out.

I hope this information will satisfy all of the rumors going around. As for the old market building, it will take a lot of work and money to get in back in usable condition. Don’t hold your breath.

Sincerely,

Ross Smedley

Centerville
