As a visitor to Kaysville and anticipating becoming a resident, I have some concerns and these are some of the things I have observed.
This year, Kaysville will elect a mayor and two city councilman. Yes “men,” your city council consists of nothing but men. Where are the women? Balance is needed and women can help.
Another point I want to bring to the attention of your readers and voters is the ballot...why are the incumbents not identified (Incumbents are current officers running for re-elections)? People who are new like me would not be aware of who’s who. I have not seen the ballot but have talked with those who have and wonder why this is so. I’ve been reading the articles in the newspaper regarding how the current city government mismanaged city funds so I wonder...is this a deliberate attempt to cloud the issues? Or are they concerned that the people will vote against them? The state auditor’s report reveals corrections that need to be made by the Kaysville City government. Will they make those corrections or continue as previously done?
Are Kaysville residents aware that the mayor and the two city council incumbents are running as a group? The mayor, Steve Hiatt, and the councilmen, Gil Miller and Jared Taylor (The Big Three) have put signs up all over Kaysville; do they want to defeat Prop 5? Are they against government transparency? Our federal government seems to have forgotten whom they serve, has the Kaysville City government forgotten whom they serve? They are servants of the people! Let’s make them accountable! New and old citizens need to be involved in the running of our cities.
It appears to me that the incumbents need to be voted out...they have messed up! Citizens need to step up and be counted! We need to stop corruption wherever it rears its ugly head. Government needs to be returned to the people!
