Letters: One stranger changed my focus

I was shopping in Lowe’s for a dishwasher. The salesperson was checking on the model I wanted to see if it was in stock. I wandered over to the lighting department to look for a porch light while I waited. A gentleman approached me and asked if I was going to purchase the dishwasher I was looking at. I told him I was. He then asked if I would let him give me $200 to help pay for said dishwasher. I have no idea who this man was, or why he wanted to give me money on a dishwasher. I have no idea why he picked me to be so kind to.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the tall gentleman shopping in Lowe’s on Aug. 15th at 6:30 pm. You know who you are, the one wearing the khaki shorts and tropical print shirt. Maybe that is Santa’s summer wear. It is a special feeling to have a stranger be so generous. It inspired me to “pay it forward”, which I have done, and that is even a better feeling.

A young father of five has recently become disabled and also been called to a leadership roll at church. Needless to say he has no extra money. I know he would have purchased a suit if finances were available — a perfect opportunity for me to “pay it forward”.

Now it is his turn. Without even a suggestion he has “paid it forward” and raised $200 off his labors in an auction for some girls to go to a camp.

Sir, look where your $200 has already gone. Imagine what good can be done if each of those girls do something to “pay it forward”. What a difference one person can make. Thanks again, you changed my focus.

Darla Harward,
