BOUNTIFUL – If it’s almost Thanksgiving, it has to be time for the annual Bountiful Lions Club Turkey Shoot.

Billed as “The World’s Largest Turkey Shoot,” shooters of all ages can take part Friday-Sunday, Nov. 22-Nov. 24, 8 a.m. to dark.

“We can’t prove it’s the world’s largest, but it’s pretty big,” said Wayne King, Turkey Shoot chairman.

For nearly 70 years, the club has sponsored what is its largest annual fund raiser.

More than 8,000 shooters and spectators typically are on hand, from throughout the Intermountain West, he said.

There is trap shooting for youth, beginners and experts. There are pistol shoots, food available for purchase, and what many consider a fun tradition.

“The public has always supported our charity shoot and enjoyed the fun of knocking down clay pigeons,” King said.

About 1,800 turkeys and $2,000 in prizes will be awarded. That includes 100 gallons of gas, a large TV, two shotguns and a big array of sporting goods.

All funds raised go back to support the community, he emphasized.

That’s for such programs as the Lions Club eye sight support program, where eye glasses are recycled for use by those in need. Various public improvements are also supported, King said.

Cost is $6 to shoot trap. The range is by the block “B”. Drive up 400 North to 1300 East in Bountiful, then follow the signs.
