DAVIS COUNTY -- High school principals from across the Davis School District recently attended the Summer Leadership Institute of the Principals' Partnership, a program sponsored by the Union Pacific Foundation.

During the three-day conference, participating principals received training that focused on professional development in specific topics like school safety, closing the achievement gap, diversity, literacy and motivating students.

"Principals are the leaders in high schools, and our nation needs the most effective high schools possible to compete in an increasingly complex society," said Bob Turner of Union Pacific Foundation. "Principals deserve not only the best professional development, but also recognition for their important work.

Local principals in attendance included Ryck Astle of Bountiful High School, Rulon Homer of Davis High School, Vickie Ingram of Woods Cross High School and Steve Hill of Northridge High School.
