CENTERVILLE — A man was arrested on four counts of voyeurism after a woman found he was allegedly using a mobile phone to video record her in her bedroom.
Edward Joseph Giovannoni, 44, was booked into the Davis County Jail last week after he allegedly put the phone in a box in her bedroom to record her.
“Mr. Giovannoni asked the woman if he could stay in her basement because he was down on his luck,” said Assistant Centerville Police Chief Paul Child.
“The victim became suspicious that he was hacking into her phone because he knew the content of some of her text messages,” Child said.
The woman went to police asking for a protective order. “We told her she could just tell him to leave,” Child said.
“When she returned home, Giovannoni asked her if he could stay if he ‘came clean’ with what was he was doing” Child said. He then allegedly confessed that he had been recording her in her bedroom. Giovannoni had not been hacking into her phone, but had allegedly been looking at it when she wasn’t around, Child said.
He then allegedly smashed the phone, but the woman was able to retrieve the SIM card. Child said police found videos of the woman on it.
