Man may face vehicular homicide charges

WOODS CROSS -- A 47-year-old man is behind bars on suspicion of vehicular homicide following an accident in Woods Cross Thursday night.

The Deseret News is reporting that David Helm was taken into custody following the incident that happened at 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Helm and a friend were driving near 1500 South and 1450 West, when Helm allegedly rammed the vehicle he was driving into the back of a tow truck parked in a construction zone in a residential neighborhood.

Emergency crews found the passenger had sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Intermountain Medical Center where he later died.

Officers at the scene said they could smell alcohol on Helm's breath. Police say he declined to speak with investigators.

He was booked into the Davis County Jail.

The victim's name was not immediately available.
