CENTERVILLE — A 24-year-old Brigham City man is dead after his car was smashed between a box truck and a semi tractor trailer on I-15 on Thursday morning.

Nickalaus Renteria was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened at about 6 a.m. near Lund Lane in Centerville.

The accident was one of two that occurred about the same time on that freeway. The second crash happened near Park Lane in Farmington, slowing southbound traffic significantly.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said troopers are still investigating the Centerville accident. Renteria had been northbound in the right-hand lane with his emergency flashers on. A box truck traveling behind him ran into the rear of Renteria’s vehicle. The collision pushed it into the rear of a dump truck traveling ahead of the vehicle.

Troopers say they are still investigating the speeds at which the vehicles were traveling.

Several lanes of traffic were blocked during the investigation. They reopened about 10 a.m.
