1926-2013



Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Max G. Wiggill, 86, passed away peacefully into the arms of his loving Heavenly Father and Eternal Companion, Rhoda, on Friday, January 25, 2013, in Salt Lake City, surrounded by his loving family.

Dad was born on the kitchen table in his grandmother’s home on September 13, 1926, to Francis Eli and Nora Gardner Wiggill in Riverside, Idaho. He began his young life living in the timbers of Utah and Idaho. At eight years of age his family moved to Syracuse, where he attended Davis County Schools, graduating from Davis High School in 1945. He attended Weber State College earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1953.

Dad joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a Sea Bee in WWII. He retired from Hill Air Force Base as a Sheet Metal Supervisor after 26 years of service.

Dad was a real handyman. He enjoyed rebuilding wrecked cars, fishing, spending time at the cabin and traveling. He had the gift of gab! Scouting and its ideals were important to Dad. He was involved in scouting most of his life. He served in many leadership and teaching positions in the Lake Bonneville Council where he received numerous awards. In 1969 he led a troop of local boys to the National Scout Jamboree in Idaho. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in all capacities. He loved the Lord.

On May 27, 1949 he married Rhoda Sandoz, in the Logan Temple. This union was blessed with five children; Rhonda (Larry) Tate, Maxine (Bradford) Starkey, Bryan (Darlene), Scott (Tracy), Brett (Troya) Wiggill. On January 1, 1990, after the death of Rhoda, he married Norma L. Boehme adding her four children to his family; Camy Dingman, Marshall (Leslie) Boehme, Sandra Wright, Sondra (Blair) Kranendonk.

He will be missed by his wife Norma, his nine children, 37 grandchildren and 79 great-grandchildren, whom he loved at his side.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rhoda, his parents, brother, Kirt G., son-in-law Ray Wright and two great-grandsons; Braden Lee Payne and Hunter Burke.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
