BOUNTIFULThe coaches for Region 1, Region 2 and Region 6 recently released their votes on who they believe should be named to the respective All-Region teams.

Among the 17 boys’ basketball players named to their respective teams, Bountiful junior Sam Merrill took top honors by being voted the Most Valuable Player in Region 6.

He and teammate Zach Seljaas made the first team list from Region 6, and Jarom Tye was named as the only Viking to the first team in All-Region 2.

Three Davis players were listed as first teamers, including Abel Porter, Jesse Wade and Braden Koelliker.

Merrill, who also earned 4A All-State honors last week, led the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Braves, who won Region 6 with an unblemished 10-0 record this season.

Also making the first team was his teammate Zach Seljaas, who was second on the team behind Merrill in both points per game and rebounds, averaging 15.3 and 4.3 per game, respectively.

Honorable mentions for Bountiful were Jeff Pollard and Pere LeSeuer.

A quartet of Woods Cross players also made the All Region team. Three of them, Skyler Farnes, Hayden Grant and Brady Cowley, made the second team, and Mike Jacobsen was listed as a honorable mention.

Farnes, Grant and Cowley were the top three scorers on the team this season.

Tye’s selection on the first team All-Region 2 list came after posting a team-high 13.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for Viewmont. All three of the McKay’s Р Butler, Johnson and Richins Р also made the list. Butler made the second team, and Johnson and Richins were voted as honorable mentions.

Abel Porter, Jesse Wade and Braden Koelliker lead the All-Region 1 list, as the trio were part of a Darts team that made the quarterfinals of the 5A State playoffs.

All three were the top three scorers on the team. Wade led the team with and average of 14.8 points, and Porter averaged 13.6 points per game.

Koelliker averaged 10.3 points and led the team in rebounding, averaging 8.2 rebounds per game.

Votes for the All Region teams were specifically done by the coaches of each region.”
