OGDEN – F. Ann Millner has announced her candidacy as a Republican for the Utah Senate in District 18.
That district includes part of Layton and other far north portions of Davis County, plus portions of Weber County and Morgan County.
The former president of Weber State University emphasized her ongoing commitment to the state’s economic development as she formally announced her candidacy.
“Utah benefits from a strong economy and energetic workforce that makes our state attractive to employers,” Millner said in a press release.
“I know how to work with business and industry to build partnerships and bring more jobs to our state,” she said.
In her former role as president and vice president at WSU, Millner said she has worked extensively with all three counties in her district.
She has 32 years of experience working with state and local lawmakers and civic leaders. As a part of that, she has worked to build sustainable partnerships in an effort to find community solutions, the press release said.
An example of that is SEED Weber/Davis/Morgan, a strategic collaboration among county commissioners and business leaders from t5he tri-county area, and WSU.
The initiative worked to foster the creation of entrepreneurial-led businesses through regional collaboration.
Millner has been a strong support of Hill AFB, and its important role in the state’s economy. She has collaborated with local business and industry to support the governor’s northern Utah defense and aerospace cluster. She has also served on the Utah Defense Alliance.
She worked closely with legislators and state officials on a variety of issues for 22 years.
Drawing on her background in education, Millner said she will focus on student achievement. “We have a responsibility to prepare people, not only for careers, but success in life,” she said.
