CLEARFIELD — A 20-year-old motorcyclist who was hit by an SUV Friday afternoon is expected to make a full recovery.

Preston Wirthlin, 20, was making a left-hand turn from Lakeview Drive onto SR-126 just before 3 p.m. on Friday, when a Jeep Waggoner crashed into him, according to Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist. A 27-year-old woman traveling north on SR 126 was driving the Waggoner.

Wirthlin, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by medical helicopter to Ogden Regional Medical Center in critical condition, Stenquist said. His condition has since improved.

The driver and her two children, passengers in the SUV, were not injured.

Police closed SR-126 for about an hour.

Police have yet to determine if any citations will be issued.
