Music, dance instructors recognized

SALT LAKE CITY —  Two Davis County educators were honored with Sorenson Legacy Awards for Excellence in Arts Education, at an event sponsored by the Utah State Office of Education.

Martha Avant, music specialist at Knowlton Elementary in Farmington, received an Outstanding Music Instructor award, and Linda Gold, drama instructor at Creekside Elementary in Kaysville and Whitesides Elementary in Layton, received a Outstanding Drama Instructor award.

All together, 19 Utah educators, administrators and volunteers were honored for their commitment to arts education in Utah public schools, according to a press release.

A cash award of $2,500 was presented to each individual winner, and another $2,500 was presented to each winner’s school.

Awards were sponsored by a grant from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation.
