"It gives people a chance to get to know their candidates," said North Salt Lake City Recorder LaRae Dillingham. "Then if they choose not to, it's on their shoulders."
The evening will start with an open house, where residents and candidates will mingle and residents will submit questions they want to ask the candidates. Then the North Salt Lake Youth Council will ask the candidates several of the questions, after which each candidate will be allowed to make their final statements. Refreshments will also be served.
Incumbent North Salt Lake Shanna Schaefermeyer and current North Salt Lake council member Lynn Ballard are running for the position of mayor.
Six candidates will be going after the three council member positions: North Salt Lake police officer John Herndon, NSL Youth Council Advisor Scott Briggs, former North Salt Lake Planning Commission Chair Brian Horrocks, NSL Parks and Trails Committee Chairman Stan Porter, state agency director Ron Gordon, and West Valley City Chief of Enforcement Kelly Davis.
A photo and brief bio of each candidate is in the most recent North Salt Lake city newsletter, which due to a printing error was delayed in reaching some residents. Early voter information for residents can be found on North Salt Lake's Web site, www.nslcity.org.
