FARMINGTON —  The public is invited to tour and use the new Farmington Branch Library at 133 South Main, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

The official opening will follow a ribbon cutting ceremony to be held at 9:15 a.m.

The library will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and opening day events will include tours and special children’s story times from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The nearly 50-year-old former Farmington/Headquarters library closed its doors Thursday evening, Oct. 4. Some 70,000 books were moved by staff on Friday, Oct. 5 and Monday, Oct. 8.

“We worked out maps for everything,” said Assistant Library Director Jerry Meyer. Cataloger Malayna Paskett oversaw preparation of books and other items to be transferred across the parking lot, including color coding and numbering of each shelf, etc.

Three small teams were working simultaneously to move all of the collection’s items.

“A lot of thought went into this. The entire staff worked tirelessly, including from other branches,” Sanford said.
