BOUNTIFUL –  It’s a go for the new shelter and playground at Bountiful’s 4th North Park, near the South Davis Recreation Center.

On Oct. 22, the Bountiful City Council approved the project. It means a new, safety-approved, state-of-the-art playground, replacing the 20-year-old plus one that’s served many kids over the years.

The existing shelter will be replaced by one that’s slightly larger. It will have running water, and more picnic areas.

“Over the next two years you’ll see a real facelift in the park,” Mayor Joe Johnson said.

“We will move forward,” said Parks Director Jerry Wilson. Weather permitting, some initial work may still be started this fall.

But plans are to have the new shelter and playground in place by next summer.

That first phase will cost about $150,000, with just over two-thirds of it for the new playground and sidewalk and other improvements.

Other improvements will be completed to beautify and improve the area into 2014.
