“It was hands-down my favorite,” the 20-year-old Centerville resident said. She spent from July 6 through 22 at the pageant, rehearsing and performing.
Beckman is the third generation in her family to be part of the pageant, whose story is taken from the Bible and the Book of Mormon.
This year was the 75th anniversary of the pageant held yearly in Palmyra, N.Y. It took place on the site where members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe church founder Joseph Smith found golden plates, which he used to translate the Book of Mormon.
During that last scene of the pageant, Jesus Christ is revealed above the set in all of his glory. The actor playing Jesus hangs in the air, dressed in black, so he can’t be seen by the audience until he drops the dark cover, revealing a pure white tunic.
Sitting where she was on the set, Beckman could see the actor’s movements. She said it didn’t seem to matter how many time she saw it, “It sent shivers down my spine.”
