LAYTON - Police say a man was critically injured after being hit while crossing Hill Field Road late Wednesday night.
According to a press release, 21-year-old William Gallegos was driving south on Hillfield Road in his Toyota Corolla when 30-year-old Troy Heiner ran across the street, heading west.
Police say Heiner was struck by Gallegos’s vehicle, and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Davis Hospital where he was later airlifted to Ogden Regional Hospital.
According to police, Gallegos had an infant and two children with him in his vehicle at the time of the crash, but no one inside the car was injured.
Police said both Gallegos and Heiner are Layton residents.
A witness who was with Heiner on the East side of Hillfield Road said he told Heiner not to cross the street, but that he ran across the road anyway.
Police say Gallegos stated he did not see Heiner until he was struck by his vehicle.
As of Thursday at midday, police reported that Heiner was still in critical condition.
Layton police say they are still actively investigating the incident.
