LAYTON — Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who may have tried to kidnap a 10-year-old girl while she was walking home from school on Wednesday.

The girl told police she was walking through the park next to Adams Elementary School, when a male came up behind her and grabbed her by the upper arms, according to a press release.

She was able to escape his grasp, but was kicked and hit in the process, police say. The man was allegedly scared off when a vehicle drove by on a nearby street. The girl then walked home and waited several hours before reporting the incident to a family member, Layton Police Lt. Jason Hinojosa said.

The girl’s mother took her to Davis Hospital and Medical Center, where they found minor bruising on her upper arm, police say. Medical personnel at the hospital contacted police.

Police say the suspect is described as a high school-aged white male with a thin build. He is approximately 5’7” tall with tan skin, wearing a neon yellow long-sleeve shirt, light blue baggy denim jeans, red and white DC brand shoes, a dark ski mask and dark sunglasses.

Anyone with information about the suspect is encouraged to contact Layton Police at 801-497-8300.
